New feature: Commitments

Posted March 5, 2017, 7:04 p.m.

One of our goals here at ActionRising is to use technology to enhance social connections, rather than replace them.  We know that no matter how many reminder emails we send you about actions on your todo list, nothing we do will be as effective as a nudge from a friend.

That's why we're introducing commitments.  When you make a commitment, you can select friends on the site and up to five people you know off the site.  If you haven't completed the action within two weeks, those friends will get a reminder email from the site asking them to check in on you.  It will do this every week for three weeks before giving up.  If you prefer, you can change how long you have before the emails start, or increase/decrease the number of emails.  You can also add a custom message to your friends, letting them know the best way to bug you, or why you've made a commitment to this particular action.

Here's how to make a commitment.  Once you've added an action to your todo list, you can click the 'Commit to Action' button in the sidebar:

This will bring you to a new page, where you can provide all the details for your commitment:

This is a new feature, so there may very well be bugs.  Please let us know if you run into any problems, or if you have suggestions for how to improve it!
